Happy new year!! Our word for January...

Here's to a new year to look forward to! And what word could be more appropriate than DREAM. Our word for January to think about and focus on is DREAM.
"A dream is a wish your heart makes." ~ Cinderella
Do you have big dreams? Small dreams? What are you wishing for in the new year ahead?
I would say besides winning the lottery (everyone's big dream LOL), one of my big dreams would be to go to Europe. A more manageable big dream would be to make it the UK. If I had to squeeze to an even more do-able big dream, well, I couldn't narrow it down just yet to which part. But what I could do right now to bring that dream closer would be to start squirreling away a few dollars here and there. It might take a long time, but it's in the realm of possibility. Another one would be a train ride across Canada. That would be cool! You can thank the O Canada movie at the Canada pavilion in EPCOT for that one. LOL I'd also love to go back to PEI and also check out Novia Scotia and Newfoundland.
Now, closer to home.... I dream of keeping a clean house. LOL Not having a dishwasher makes the kitchen the hardest. I dream of getting closer to catching up in the scrapping. That's been my 'dream' the last couple of years. And speaking of home, I dream of a nice farmhouse on a good sized piece of land to call my own. Now between that dream and Europe, I think I have a better chance of going to Europe. But I can still dream.

In my dream, the angel shrugged & said, If we fail this time, it will be a failure of imagination & then she placed the world gently in the palm of my hand.

For me...because of my religious beliefs, dreams are a negative....illusions to be woken up from and brushed aside.

to desire something, aka dreaming of something....is also a a waste of time because it robs us of the things we could be doing right now.

Having said that.... it would have been nice if we had been able to buy a small farm and raise much of our own food and be semi-selfsufficient....but that wasn't to be.

Other then something like that...I really don't dream about the future...it will get here when it gets here and what ever it brings, I will deal with. Ka sera, sera...whatever will be, will be.

:D

But if a dream is also a goal, it is something you can work towards now - therefore it is not robbing. Like my dream, for example, of a trip - it's not very likely to just 'come along'. It is something I'd have to work towards.
You could dream of what your garden might be like this spring and summer. It is something to look forward to and plan for. You have to plan your garden before you plant it. What seeds you will need to buy, what fruits and veggies you want, how you have to prepare the beds.
You seem to have a good sized yard. I bet you could raise quite a bit in it. Even some chickens if there's no town ordinance or something against it. Maybe a goat.
BTW - my prompts are from a religious-related calendar. January is actually 'live your dreams' - I shortened it. Accompanied by "You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways. - Job 22:28"

Tam,
You have no idea what quoting that scripture (Job 22:28) did for me just now! Thank you so much. It really is/was an answer to prayer.

It is just a different way of looking at things.... I consider "dreaming" a willful activity...not listening to God, but deciding/wishing what I want to happen and making it happen.

I'm not a "driven" person....someone who makes things happen. I pray/live to be obedient to God...and what comes my way will be what I need to have happen...IF I am obedient and listening.

Dreaming doesn't fit in there...

Sure, I would like for this to happen or that to happen....I plan my garden, I plant the seeds...if the activity is a right activity then it should prove fruitful. If I force it and willfully do something then it usually winds up a mess and unproductive.

I know....I'm weird. LOL

I'm trying to think of something I dream of that isn't really a goal. Like one goal is to finish my granddaughter's journal that I didn't get done before Christmas. I also want to replace most of our carpet for hardwood floors, but is that a dream? I don't think so, because it's real and not just wishful thinking. Our carpet is a mess and wrinkled so needs to be replaced, and since dear hubby never changes his dirty shoes when walking across it, I choose not to become a nagging wife, so will not to have light colored carpet in the vulnerable areas.

It's my wish to have a decent bathroom and that isn't really a dream either It's one other thing that has to be replaced out of necessity. The sink has rusted through, and the floor by the tub has some water damage so the both sink and tub have to be ripped out.

Ah, I just thought something I dream of - a fancy new sewing machine that I really don't need, since my one from the 50's still works good, so probably won't buy it, at least not until our floors and bathroom are renewed. I don't obsess over it though.

Pam - I sort of get it, but not fully. And I'm not a driven person either. I think it's pretty obvious. LOL I don't get waiting for things to come your way. Don't they say God helps those who help themselves?

I don't think that is a biblical scripture (I can not find it anyway) but it is a good principle. :)

What is? LOL

God helps those who help themselves

Oh, I didn't say it was. I said 'they' because I've heard it. Though I probably did figure there was some reference there. LOL
So of course, I had to search and while there is no specific verse (and not where the saying came from), one could say it is in the Bible in some form. But it all comes down to interpretation really of both the saying and the Bible as one can argue both sides. Now, it is said God helps the helpless but to that one could say God helps those that help themselves AND those who *cannot* (as opposed to those who will not).
